Addictions are hard as it is without worrying about what you will lose because of your addiction.  Having a gambling addiction is one of the most reputation destroying addictions, because of this addiction you can lose your job and lose the possibility of getting another job in the future.

Why you might get fired:

You stayed up all night the night before work.  You gambled and gambled until it was time to go to work.  When you get to work you could be late, drunk or unable to perform your job to your employer’s expectations.  You could have lost so much money that you cannot afford to get to work, this would result in multiple absences.  These reasons are good enough reasons for you to be fired.  An employer is well within his or her right to fire you if you do any of these things.

Why you might not get another job:

While having an addiction to anything is usually something that is anonymous, a quick background check will tell future employers all they need to know.  If they realize that you have a gambling addiction they will not hire you for one of two reasons.  One, if you are addicted to gambling you might gamble with your responsibilities at work and two, if the job you are applying for involves the handling of money, you might be considered a liability.  They are right to worry about you or gambling debts and to be wary of hiring someone who might get desperate later on down the line.

Being addicted to gambling is amongst one of the most destructive addictions and can not only ruin the current things you have going for you but limit your opportunities for the future.  If you are worried that you may have a problem, tell someone as soon as possible and take action to avoid the consequences.  Your future is not worth the present.
